Department:  Fire

Division:  Fire Prevention

Rate of Pay:  $11.04/hr

Nature of Work:  Performing tasks related to fire code enforcement, public education and information.

Examples of Work:  As assigned, enforce the City-adopted Fire Code.  Perform, manage and/or assist with commercial inspections.  Assist other officers with field work, as needed.  In conjuction with other members and agencies, participate in fire cause investigations.  Schedule and conduct public education events.  Assist with department public relations.  Enter information in data management systems related to inspections, code enforcement or other aspects of fire prevention tasks.  Organize and file Fire Prevention records.  Interact with the public in and out of office on behalf of Fire Prevention.  Assist with other duties as assigned by fire chief or fire marshall.

Desirable Qualifications:  High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and two (2) years experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.  Data entry background and amiliarity with Microsoft Office.

Training:  Within two (2) years of employment, code offices are expected to have attained the following certifications:  Fire Inspector 1031-1 and Fire Investigator 1033.

Upon earning both certifications, code enforcement officers will be eligible for incentive pay in the amount of $2,000 per year.  Continuance of the incentive pay will be dependent on the member attaining 48 hours of continuing education per year in either  the fields of inspections or investigation, and performing the number of commercial inspections per year as assigned by the fire marshall.

GMR Marketing is looking for a Field Manager to work an event at the University of Southern Mississippi from August 21-24. The Field Manager will need to be available to work the week before and after the event as well. The Field Manager will work approximately 65 hours total. More information is included below. GMR Marketing, the nation’s largest event marketing company, is helping to launch an event at various college campuses nationwide for a major cable and internet provider! We are searching for outgoing and energetic Field Managers with previous management experience.  If interested please read on, this should be a very fun and exciting event!


We are looking to hire Field Managers for our promotion this fall. The Field Manager reports directly to the GMR account team. In addition to the job duties outlined below, the Field Manager should perform other duties as assigned by the Account Team when necessary. 


The 4day event will take place at The University of Southern Mississippi from August 21 – August 24. The Field Manager will be required to work the week of the event and must be available the week prior to the event, as well. 



Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Pre-Event:

  • Provide recommended event sites to account team, including event site contact information
  • Help with recruitment of up to (6) reliable brand ambassadors to work four (4) consecutive, full event days
  • Meet with local Comcast sales team to train on University offer and selling points (tbd)
  • Pick up event collateral and materials from local shipment destinations as needed
  • Pick up program vehicle from local rental facility
  • Pick up miscellaneous materials in-market


Essential Duties and Responsibilities – During Event Week:

  • Load/unload event elements to/from program vehicle
  • Set up footprint (including tent, banners, table, giveaways)
  • Conduct on-site training with brand ambassador team, including role-playing
  • Enthusiastically drive college students to Comcast/Xfinity tent on campus
  • Promote University back-to-school TV & Internet offer
  • Demo products as requested by GMR Account team
  • Ensure brand ambassador team is compliant with site rules and regulations

Mississippi Center for Justice seeks to hire an entry-level Administrative Assistant to act as an Oil Spill Intake Specialist/Data Manager for the Center’s BP oil claims project. The Center plans to locate the position at its Gulf Coast office in Biloxi.  Mississippi Center for Justice is a successful and rapidly growing nonprofit, public interest law firm committed to advancing racial and economic justice.  The Center’s lawyers and other professionals work with community leaders to support their social justice campaigns and to channel the energies of the legal community to combat discrimination and poverty.  With offices in Jackson, Biloxi and Indianola, the Center seeks systemic solutions that promote educational opportunity, protect the rights of consumers, secure access to healthcare, promote equity in disaster recovery and put affordable housing within the reach of all Mississippians.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Center’s Oil Claims Intake Specialist will work with the project supervisor, other staff attorneys and support personnel to provide direct legal assistance to low-income individuals with claims arising from the BP oil disaster.  The Specialist will manage phone calls, client walk-ins, and other initial points of direct client contact to the Center regarding oil claims. 

The position requires that the Intake Specialist collect sensitive client information to determine eligibility for legal services and the assessment of oil claims-related legal needs.  The Specialist will gather, track and preserve supplemental client documents, as well as perform other administrative duties related to oil claims case management such as tracking and reporting requests for assistance.  Excellent interpersonal communications skills with individuals from all walks of life are highly desired.  We seek an intake specialist who has a passion for social justice combined with strong organizational skills.
